PASTORAL VISITING WORKSHOP: Saturday Sept. 26, 2009 at St Andrew's from 10:00 am to noon. Presented by Martha Fish. No Charge — Please Pre-Register @ 368-5581 or 362-9022. To develop comfort in visiting fellow parishioners in a variety of circumstances, with a focus on the elderly. We will learn and practice effective communication styles, learn to recognize and respond appropriately to situations where communication is difficult and develop/strengthen an ongoing network of supportive visitors.

AT HOME WITH GOD: Friends of Taize Guided Weekend Retreat. October 16-18 @ Marywood Retreat Centre—Cranbrook. The weekend will include: Input, Taize changes, Quiet Prayer & Group Sharing. For further information, please call Marywood at 250-426-8117 or email marywoodretreats@shaw.ca.

FOOD BANK NOTICE: There were over 60 families at the Food Bank this past week. And so, the cupboards are very bare again! The next Food Bank will be held Tuesday, October 13th. The team would appreciate donations of fruit, vegetables and proteins. A special request has been extended for treats for the children: cookies, chocolate bars, juices, etc. Thanks to the Parish for Ongoing Support!!

REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE FROM ALTAR GUILD: Altar Guild would appreciate donations of produce, flowers, etc. for Harvest Sunday, October 11th. Please deliver to the church on Saturday morning, Oct 10th @ 10 am……..and then we encourage you to stay and help decorate!!

FALL GARDEN TIDY-UP: Are there any folks willing to help tidy up the Lord’s garden? Please contact Lesley @ 368-5123 to maybe group together to accomplish the task!

EFM—OPEN EVENING: EFM has an open evening on Thursday May 14th. It's an opportunity for anyone who is interested in doing EFM and would like to see what it entails without making any commitment. It is at Castlegar from 6.30 - 9pm during which we have refreshments. Otherwise just come for half a session or on another evening when it might be more convenient. EASTER FOOD BANK: A Reminder that financial and food donations are needed for our Easter Food Bank. It will be held Tuesday, April 14th. The Need for this Community Outreach Ministry is Growing!

ASSISTANCE FOR SIMON & JUNO SHENSTONE: The home of Simon and Juno Shenstone caught fire and burned to the ground. Fortunately, they were not home at the time and so, unharmed. But, all their possessions were lost and the home was not insured. The diocesan family is offering prayer and support.
If you would like to make a donation to assist the Shenstones, you may send your gift to the Bishop’s Discretionary Fund at the Synod Office and in the memo line on the cheque write “Shenstone”. You will receive a receipt for the donation and the gift will be quickly forwarded.

SKI WEEKEND INVITATION: An invitation has been extended from Peace Lutheran in Vernon for a Ski Weekend for February 20-22, 2009. They are incredibly excited about once again opening their doors to you for this weekend. In addition to downhill skiing, there are two members of the congregation offering to give cross country ski lessons to those who would rather cross-country ski. Both people are certified ski instructors and are willing to teach anyone interested in learning. They will have enough room for the first 100 people who respond. CREATING TRUSTWORTHY COMMUNITIES: A presentation of the Diocese of Kootenay, Saturday, June 14th, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's. A full- day workshop designed to educate church leaders in the areas of power and vulnerability, boundary issues, sexual misconduct and tools to establish safe spaces and practices. The goal is to help church leaders become more self-aware of the influence they hold, to identify the risks that influence entails, to education on appropriate relational behaviour and to facilitate congregations establishing practices to make their community safe and trustworthy. GARDEN RECONSTRUCTION: According to the plan approved last fall by Church Committee, our church garden is set to undergo some significant changes this year. An underground sprinkler system will be installed, and a "new look" created where there is some lawn space and welcome seating areas. In order to achieve the tranquil end, we must undergo some interim chaos. Can you help?

Take Back the Gulch Walk, Thursday, Dec 6, 5pm: The "Take Back the Gulch" gathering and walk will take place on Thursday, Dec. 6, Canada's National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women which honours the victims of the 1989 Montreal Massacre and all other women affected by violence. We'll start at 5pm with a short time of reflection in the Lower Hall of St. Anthony's Catholic Church on Rossland Avenue, walk down the Gulch to the Highway intersection and end the event with hot chocolate & coffee at the Salvation Army's new Family Services Centre. And along the way, we'll stop to celebrate the building of the Colombo Lodge's beautiful new park, which enhances the beauty and safety of this historic area of Trail. All are welcome to bring placards and candles or flashlights to "Shine a light on the Gulch". Call the Trail F.A.I.R. office for more information: 364-2326.
